Facing Sickness and Poverty

I was born into a home that was not blessed with many of the things that most people take for granted. My parents were not wealthy and we lived in the poorer part of town. As a child I became prone to most childhood diseases and struggled through my early years of life, fighting the odds that were against me.

I grew up in a home that loved the Lord and where Jesus had His rightful place. I was blessed abundantly from a spiritual viewpoint, but it seemed that I was destined to go through life battling against poverty and ill health.

Looking for Answers

Perhaps that is partly why I made such an effort to find solutions to these problems in life. The church that I grew up in taught me that God wanted me to be healed but I could not seem to lay hold of it.

When it came to financial prosperity I was taught that the things of the world were to have no place in the life of one committed to the Lord. So I did what most people do as they grow up. I turned to the world to find solutions to my problems.

Having an active mind I consumed every book that I could find on the subject of success. Self-help writings such as those of Dale Carnegie, Napoleon Hill and Og Mandino were a great inspiration but they lacked a spiritual emphasis and Scriptural basis.

But more important than that, they did not work for me. As I came to experience more of God in the Spirit and began to fill myself with His Word I started to consume books written by Christian authors.

Since this subject seemed to be largely the domain of the Word of Faith movement, I read books written by some of the leading teachers in that movement to find answers to my questions.

I learned much, but once again I found that, even armed with the knowledge that was presented, I could not break out of the mold of my failure and difficulties in life. There had to be some more answers in the Word that I had not yet discovered.

So I put aside all the books and ideas of man, and I began to look into the Scriptures alone, waiting on the Lord and seeking His face in the Spirit for answers. As I began to move into a closer relationship with the Lord Jesus He began to show me things that I had never seen or heard before.

Finding the Truth

It took some time for me to change my ways of thinking and to apply these principles and make them work. I soon found out there was no such thing as "Ten Easy Steps to Success."

In this book you will find a distillation of the truths that God taught me by His Spirit and in His Word over a long period of time. They have been proved in the crucible of experience, and I live by them daily.

My entire ministry is based on them. Without them I could not have accomplished what has been done so far and without them I cannot succeed in the future. Without them you would not be holding this book in your hand now.

Now at His instruction I am releasing them to the Body of Christ, so that others who are walking the same path of difficulty that I had, will be able to find hope for the future. I pray that as you read these chapters prayerfully and apply them to your life, that you will over a period of time see them begin to work for you.

Do not expect this to happen overnight. There is nothing magical about what I share in this book. But if you absorb and apply all that is taught consistently, I guarantee that your life will never be the same again.
